The biggest obstacle in recycling oil is finding a way to transport it. Experts say that selecting a drain pan that can be tightly sealed is the best way to bring it from point A to point B when you're finished changing the oil.
You will also want to be sure that any container you use is free of any other liquid. Though it may seem like common sense, any contamination can ruin the chances of recycling oil. As a final protective measure, make sure you have drop cloth or newspaper on hand to catch any oil that might spill during the transfer, the website advises.
Recycling your motor oil is not only a good way to dispose of the substance, but it can do a lot of good for the environment. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), around 750 million gallons of oil are reprocessed every year.
